Russian President Vladimir Putin is considering a ceasefire in Ukraine that recognises the current battlefield lines which would leave Russia in control of parts of four Ukrainian regions but without full control. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has rejected the idea of a ceasefire, stating it would benefit Russia. Despite a proposal for a temporary ceasefire during the Olympic Games being turned down by both leaders, Putin believes recent gains in the war could be portrayed as a victory to the Russian people.
